Hello darlings,
in my last post I showed you the Japanese amigurumi doll I made for my god-daughter. Well, she has a little sister and I needed to make her a little something too. So I made her a small chicken for her to play with.
I didn't really like the crochet patterns of chicken I found online so I made one for myself. It's very easy and can be used as the basis for many animals. I intend to make many more animals with it so stay tuned!
Yellow cotton yarn (Karma by stenliyarn, color# 14) for the body.
Orange for the feet, nose and the comb
White for the eyes
Black embroidery thread for the eyes
A 3mm hook.
Polyester filling
Yarn needle
ABBREVIATIONS
In US terms.
MC= magic circle
SC= single crochet
SL=slip
ST=stitch
CH= chain
The pattern is worked in spiral, no need to join at the end of each round.
BODY
With yellow yarn, make a MC
R1 = 8sc in MC (8)
R2 = 2sc in each st from previous round (16)
R3 = 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st - repeat to the end of the round (24)
R4 = 1sc in next 2sts, 2sc in next st - repeat to the end of the round (32)
R5 = 1sc in next 3sts, 2sc in next st - repeat to the end of the round (40)
R6 - R20 = 1sc in each st to the end of the round (40)
R21 = 1sc in next 3sts, 1 decrease in next - repeat to the end of the round (32)
R22 = 1sc in next 2sts, 1 decrease in next - repeat to the end of the round (24)
R23 = 1sc in next st, 1 decrease in next - repeat to the end of the round (16)
R24 = 1 decrease in each st to the end of the round (8).
Leave a long end and cut off the yarn.
Fill the body with the polyester filling and using your long end and a yarn needle close the opening.
FEET
(make two)
With orange yarn, ch 4
Sl st to the second ch from hook and the next two sts (finger 1)
Ch4, sl st to the second ch from hook and the next two sts (finger 2)
Ch4, sl st to the second ch from hook and the next two sts (finger 3)
Make a cluster stitch by getting the last st of each of the fingers into the hook and yarn over. It's kinda like a sc3tog.
Leave a long end and cut off the yarn. Using your yarn needle, attach the feet in the bottom of the body.
COMB
With orange yarn, ch 8
1hdc in the second st from hook, 2dc in next st, 1hdc in next st, sl st in next, 1 hdc in next, 2dc in next st, 1hdc in next st, sl st in next. Secure yarn and cut off leaving a long end to attach it to the chicken's head.
EYES & NOSE
(make two)
Using white yarn make a MC and sc 4 in the circle. Then, make 2sc to each sc around. Fasten off and leave a long end to attach to the body.
Using your black embroidery thread secure the eyes on the body and made some stitches to form the eyes.
Using your yellow yarn and your yarn needle, make the nose after attaching the eyes. The goofier the expression the better!!!
The baby liked the chicken and I couldn't be happier with how easy this was! Many more patterns to come so stay tuned! Check here for my other crochet patterns!
Happy Easter to all my friends!
