It was about time to write another crochet pattern for my friends and followers and I got the perfect opportunity when HobbiiYarn asked me to take part to yet another of their amazing challenges! This time the challenge is festive and Christmas related and I decided to make a couple of soft plushies for my son who is two and loves soft toys! Read on for the Amigurumi Christmas Tree Free Crochet Pattern.

Every year, my daughter asks us to put up the Christmas tree, earlier and earlier. She loves the festive season (what kids doesn't, right?) and she can't wait for Santa to come. She loves to discover what her advent calendar hides each day till Christmas day and it makes me happy to see her face glowing when she likes the treat I put in it! My son who is two is catching up with her (she's the best teacher ever!) and also loves soft toys. Thus my inspiration to make a Christmas tree plushie for them to play with!

I used the Honey Bunny yarn Hobbii gifted me for this challenge and I have to say I love this yarn! It's very soft and the colors are amazing! I didn't find it hard to crochet with, the exact opposite! I loved how smooth the yarn glides of my hook and the woorming effect was kept to a minimum!

Pattern notes

1. This is worked in continuous rounds.

2. You may find it difficult to make a Magic Circle with velvet yarn. I know, I've been there. There are some velvet yarns that present no problem with the magic circle and some that feel impossible to make. That's because of the way velvet yarn is made. The universal way around this problem is to make two chains and then start your pattern in the secong chain from your hook. That solves the problem but creates a bigger hole at the start of your project. In this particular pattern that bears no difference since we are going to be sewing a star at the top (start of pattern). But if you want to try and make the magic circle what I suggest is: leave a long starting tail so that you have leverage to maneuver your yarn but don't tag too hard cause it will break. Instead of tagging hard when trying to close the MC, try to gentle tag the yarn towards different directions so that you can dislodge it. I will make a video to show what I mean so check out my instagram to find out more about this tip.

3. You can add a rattle toy inside the tree if you are planning of giving it to a small child. Please, always use caution when you give handmade plushies to small kids, and always under supervision.

Tree lights

With yellow yarn, make a long chain (I made 70) and cut a long tail. Use pins to place it on the tree in a spiral way and then sew in place using your long tail.

Star

Make the star using my Crochet amigurumi little stars - Free pattern. You only need to make one star for this pattern, no need to make two, sew them and stuff them. Sew the star on Rnd 1 of the tree.

Decorations

With red yarn and your yarn needle, make some stitches on the tree. You can use any color(s) you like and make it colorful or monochromatic!
